I swear, if I have to watch 27 dresses on another airplane, somebody is going to get kicked in the face. Bad movie. Bad, bad movie.
In other news...just got into my dad's apartment in singapore this morning at 3 am...it felt a little strange to be back alone at first, but more than anything I felt something which I haven't felt for any place other than ann arbor for a long time...that feeling of home. Coming back to a place that knows you, seems to welcome you and go, hey, good to see you. It was a good feeling. I love this apartment and Singapore and I'm really excited to hit the town with my dad today and have some really fucking good Chinese food.
I am SO excited bcause my friend Darren Criss is coming back to the States today (not that I'll be there to welcome him...but nevertheless!!) He's the one who sang all the male harmonies on the record, and when he gets back in the fall - and I may be jumping the gun here - but aside from my solo stuff we're going to start a little side project together, just me and him, called Ladies and Gentlemen in the inspiration of other male/female duos in the past (She & Him, the Weepies, the Mill Stone, etc.) So look out for that in september...I'm so excited!!
Also exciting in the music world of Charlene Kaye is the fact that my sister just did the most beautiful vocal/guitar arrangement of the Beach Boys' "Wouldn't it be nice" I have ever heard in my life. I'm talking full-throttle Brian Wilson harmonies (do you have any idea how hard it is to figure out every note in those trillion-part beach boys harmonies?), I'm talking oohs and bop bops, I'm talking soul. She's the real deal, people. The kitchen sink. The kit and kaboodle. I can only hope to embody the same kind of free, untainted joy and love for a song that she manifests in everything she sings and plays. So go check it out on her MYSPACE right now. And if you like that, which you will, then check out her other covers and her own amazing songs, "Writer's block" and "syllables.
And just because I can, I'm going to post this...makes me so happy. Thanks to Bryan, who I met that night, for volunteering to capture the magic!!
Okay, so nothing exotic and foreign and exciting yet...my head's still in ann arbor. But gimme a break, I just got here. More soon.
